Fears of Marlene

Description

Inspired by Lady Marlene ([link]), an amazing, haunting song by the Norwegian band Katzenjammer. I just discovered them and I'm in love! God's Great Dust Storm sounds like a song sirens would sing, and Demon Kitty Rag is impossible to sit still to.
Interestingly enough, wikipedia has just told me Katzenjammer is German for "'cat's wail' or 'discordant sound,' sometimes used to indicate a general state of depression or bewilderment."
Well, it's a beautiful cat's wail.

I'll be posting process shots for this "Fears of Marlene" painting on my artblr ([link]), so follow me if you wanna see some behind-the-scenes work!

“…Fear is the color of all that they wear
Mother of pearl palace cold like her heart of stone…”

indeed a haunting song, which gives me chills every time I listen to it.
…Well actually I wanted to say, that I liked your work at first but got carries away, so:
I think this picture very impressing. (And it is connected somehow to Katzenjammer, which makes it even better to me ; ) ).
To be straight forward, there are two things that are bothering me here: The first thing is at the very right part of his face where the ear begins. It’s becoming quite blurry ( not too sure about the word) there, which ( to me) does not go too well with style the rest of the picture. And secondly right eye looks to me as if there was sort of eyeliner around it, somehow…
Nevertheless it is great piece of work regarding the big whole rest. I really like you’re the idea, the colours you chose (Nearly complementary colours, did you do that consciously?) ,the way you’ve used them, the way you drew it, especially nose, lips, hands and eyes. Oh those lovely, blue, desperate eyes. Poor boy alone in the dark fearing the dispiteous lady…
:+fav:

( I hope you are not offended be me, babbling just out of the blue, particularly because I’m not a digital artist or even am good with painting, colours and stuff. I just wanted to give a(n) (hopefully helpful, but mainly encouraging) opinion so excuse me please if I annoyed you.)
